HP confirms webOS tablet for ‘early 2011’
We’d heard HP’s Todd Bradley had confidentially told employees that a webOS tablet would arrive in Q1 2011, but now the man’s gone on the record in the company’s Q3 2010 earnings call. “You’ll see us with a Microsoft product out in the near future and a webOS-based product in early 2011,” he told investors and analysts in response to a direct question about tablets this afternoon, adding that potential slates were part of the reason HP bought Palm in the first place. Now, we’re not financial experts, but we’ve heard it’s typically a good idea not to promise things to your shareholders if you don’t intend to deliver. In other words, there’s a good bet the PalmPad is actually not an imaginary friend our subconscious created after Mark Hurd’s hateful words in June.
[Thanks, Robert]

I Want To Teach in a School of the Future With Sharp’s 60-inch LCD Blackboard [Blackboards]
Sharp’s 60″ PN-L601B Blackboard, announced today in Japan, ditches the SMART Board’s projector in lieu of a 1,920×1,080, LED-backlit LCD display. It’s almost awesome enough to make me want to draw sentence diagrams for Catcher In the Rye. More »

Toshiba’s Android tablet said to be coming in September or October
We can’t say Digitimes is overflowing with details on Toshiba’s long rumored Android tablet, but it looks like we should be marking our planners for a September or October release. As we’ve heard before the 10-inch tablet will run some version of Android and will be powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The early fall timing surely does make sense to us considering we just heard from NVIDIA this week that many of its partners are planning to release Tegra 2 devices in that time frame. Again, no real details on what Toshiba’s planning here in terms of pricing and specs, but here’s hoping it’s significantly less expensive than that new, fancy dualscreen Libretto W100.
Note: That’s not the actual Toshiba Android tablet up there — it’s just a poor Photoshop of the Toshiba JournE with a Android screen.
