Galaxy Nexus images, specs and benchmarks apparently leaked

Either these posters are extremely elaborate fakes, or NTT DoCoMo is really bad at keeping secrets. Just hours after it prematurely tweeted a November release for the Galaxy Nexus (aka the Nexus Prime), we now have what appears to be a full spec list and comparison with the other handsets in the Japanese carrier’s range. The details are nearly all familiar from previous suspected leaks, including the dual-core 1.2GHz Texas Instruments processor, 720p Super AMOLED curved glass display, five megapixel camera with 1080p video recording and 32GB of storage (plus 1GB RAM). Now, it’s entirely possible that the fakers are all singing from the same dodgy hymn sheet — but if that’s true, then they’ve also been busily submitting forged benchmarks to GLBenchmark, which displays results from a ‘Galaxy Nexus’ that include the same 1.2GHz clock speed and HD screen (albeit listed as 1196×720, supposedly due to the onscreen buttons). We’ll know the truth soon enough — the full fandango is but hours away.

Ford brings Bluetooth text message readouts to more SYNC vehicles
Got a SYNC-tastic Ford from 2011 onwards? Then you’ll find that the latest update (G1 V3.2.2) to the dash software will let you listen to your smartphone’s incoming emails and SMS messages via the car’s audio system, thanks to the inclusion of Bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile). We’ve already seen the tech running in BMW’s iDrive dash system and in MyFord Touch-equipped cars too, so the news here is just a wider roll-out to a bigger range of vehicles — but we’ll welcome anything that keeps more eyes on the prize. Read the full PR after the break and then enter your VIN at the More Coverage link below to see if you’re eligible.

Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0 land on shelves, deliver Gingerbread without the phone
Right on schedule the Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0 have made their way into retail channels and are ready to deliver their particular brand of phone-less Gingerbread right to your greasy little fingers. Both devices sport a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via a microSD slot as well as the usual bundle of Sammy customizations, like TouchWiz and Media Hub. The only difference between the two PMPs is size and price, with the 5-inch model coming in at $270 and the 4-inch a more modest $230. You can pick both up at your local electronics retailer, such as the one that claims to be the best, right now.

DMC Announces All-Electric DeLorean for 2013
Prepare for your 88 miles per hour of infamy. Announced Friday night at the DMC Texas Open House, DMC said it plans to work with electric car startup Epic EV to get an all-electric DMC-12 into production by 2013. On the heels of the Nike Mag, it seems like nothing is more in vogue right now than Back to the Future accessories. Early reports say the Electric DeLorean will have a maximum speed of 125 miles per hour, boast 260 horses and will retail for $90,000-100,000 USD. Word is that the flux capacitor will be sold separately.

Canadian Copyright Reform Back With Vengeance
Although Bill C-11 appears to be more flexible than the previous attempts at copyright reform, this bill is flawed to its core by the inclusion of strict, anti-circumvention provisions. Understandably, Canadians are concerned at how easily their rights are trumped by the overriding protection for digital locks included in this legislation and it is to this effect that the CCER has updated its online letter writing tool. It is essential that Canadians speak out about their concerns with Bill C-11 while it is still open to amendments.

That alone is exciting but some glorious news for us Canadians today! We’ve been sent an email from Samsung Canada that encourages us to tune in to the live webcast at 10:00 p.m. EDT tomorrow night, but the beauty is at the bottom that stated “The coolest Samsung smartphone will be coming to Canada soon. Awesome news and I’m looking forward to seeing the confirmed specs. It’s been rumoured that the Nexus Prime/Galaxy Nexus will have a 4.65-inch HD display (resolution of 1280×720), 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel that captures 1080p HD videos, 9mm thin and packs a 2050mAh battery.
We’ll be following the event as it unfolds tomorrow.

Samsung sells 30 million Galaxy S, Galaxy S II phones
Apple may have succeded to successfully block the sales of select Samsung devices in a couple countries around the world but that hasn’t stopped the Galaxy series of phones from becoming an international hit. South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung, announced that sales of the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II have sold a whopping 30 million units worldwide between the two devices. The first generation Galaxy S has reached nearly 20 million, while its sequel, the Galaxy S II recently passed the 10 million mark.
Samsung also reports that the GSII is Sammy’s fastest selling device to date, only taking five months to break 10 million units sold. Adding to the success story, the GSII received various accolades such as the ‘Mobile Choice’ and ‘Consumer Award’ 2011, and the ‘Phone of the Year’ title from the Gadget Awards 2011.

BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB placed on the “to be discontinued” list

At last count RIM reported BlackBerry PlayBook shipments reached 700,000 in 6 months. This number is certainly not up to par with all the other tablets that saturated the market in the last year, but RIM always stated the PlayBook is the “world’s first professional-grade tablet”. The price points of all models recently received a price drop, which was well accepted, but owners are still waiting for native email, calendar and contacts to appear. The last rumour was from Bloomberg’s sources who pegged a September availability for these features.
The good news is that RIM is “highly committed to the tablet market” and will be releasing new versions of the PlayBook, most notably a 4G LTE PlayBook that should drop sometime “during the second half of 2011” (time is quickly running out). We’ve been given word that the 16GB version has been placed on the “to be discontinued” list. The screenshot is from TELUS and the doc shows the final date of returns is on November 8th and the last day to place orders is on October 10th. Finally, the date the PlayBook will no longer be available is currently blank, most likely will be that way until stock reduces. Bottom line, the 16GB is being discontinued and no indication of the 32GB or 64GB models.
(Thanks tipster!)

Ice Cream Sandwich may have a built-in photo editor to help your pictures turn out halfway decent
If you envision Ice Cream Sandwich — the latest iteration of Android — as a revolutionary update that satisfies every single one of your geeky lusts, we sure hope you’ve been aching for a photo editor. It appears that AndroidPolice has hunted down a variety of icons and logos presumed to be associated with the feature, but it’s not certain if these will actually appear in the final build. The icons hint at a smattering of image editing tools: crop, sharpen, flip, rotate and a selection of 19 possible photo effects are among the options. Again, this is highly speculative, and rumors such as these will likely ramp up as we approach the official announcement. ‘Course, we won’t scoff at the idea of a native photo editor in Ice Cream Sandwich, but we’re sincerely hoping this won’t be the coolest thing about the new OS at Tuesday’s announcement in Hong Kong.
[Thanks, Paul]
