Chrome Remote Desktop BETA is fully cross-platform, extension to connect any two computers that have a Chrome browser, including Windows, Linux, Mac and Chromebooks.

Sounds awesome, right?

“Chrome Remote Desktop BETA is the first installment on a capability allowing users to remotely access another computer through the Chrome browser or a Chromebook.

The goal of this beta release is to demonstrate the core Chrome Remoting technology and get feedback from users. This version enables users to share with or get access to another computer by providing a one-time authentication code. Access is given only to the specific person the user identifies for one time only, and the sharing session is fully secured. One potential use of this version is the remote IT helpdesk case. The helpdesk can use the Chrome Remote Desktop BETA to help another user, while conversely a user can receive help by setting up a sharing session without leaving their desk. Additional use cases such as being able to access your own computer remotely are coming soon.”

That’s how the team explains the new beta release of this remote desktop feature. Oh, btw, this extension is from the Chromium team, the people behind the browser and OS.

They have been developing this feature for a long time. That explains a lot, especially when most other features make it to stable release in short span of time, comparing to other browsers.

This feature will give a tough competition to those free remote access services available in the market now. Watch out teamviwer! Talking of that,  do you think Corporate IT will block Chrome or this feature because of data security concerns?

Works on Chromebooks Too!

During the future stages of development, this extension or this feature will be a hi-light on Chromebook, answering the criticism of not being able to do anything that a traditional PC does. This may not be a full blown solution, and Chromebooks are not aiming to be a 100% replacement for your traditional PC as of now. However, this tool will be handy for anyone who owns a Chromebook.

We’re pushing that technology to the limit, and compared to our competitors, I would argue that we’re the best looking game.

How nice of you to say that about your own game. You’re probably right, though, given the massive monster PC that will be required to run the game at max settings. So I won’t ding you too much for tooting your own horn, as it were.

The provincial Crown corporation SaskTel is facing criticism over its wireless service, Geoff Leo reports.

‘Tis the season for company recognition awards, we’ve seen the “Top 100″, “Rich 100″ “Top Brands”, “Most attractive employer” and “Canada’s Top Employers for Young People” all be announced over the past couple weeks… today is no different. Mediacorp has come out with the annual “Canada’s Top 100 Employers” list, which is now in its 13th year.

To make it on this list it’s noted that “Any employer with its head office or principal place of business in Canada may apply for our national competition. Employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector”. Winners who were in the top 100 were graded on the following eight criteria: Physical Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health, Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement… so how did out Canada’s telecom/wireless player fair? Two have made the cut: SaskTel and TELUS. Others such as Rogers, Bell, WIND, Mobilicity, Videotron, MTS etc. were shut out.

The reasons why SaskTel became one of the Top 100 was because of their downtown location, they encourage employees to stay in shape, employee development, training, scholarship program for children, retirement planning assistance and contributions. As for TELUS, some employees receive year-end bonuses, signing bonuses, training and development, work-from-home program, maternity leave top-up payments and retirement assistance planning.

Perhaps next year we’ll see others make the list.

Color us a disappointed shade of blue, but it appears that Samsung and Google have decided not to launch the Galaxy Nexus (or Nexus Prime, or whatever it’s called) and Ice Cream Sandwich at their October 11th Unpacked event. The two companies sent out a joint announcement reading:

Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.

The press event on the 11th was expected to be not only the debut for the successor to the Nexus S, but our first good look at the next version of Android. For whatever reason the companies have decided to delay that launch. But, if Eric Schmidt is true to his word, we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer… he did promise us that it would launch by November. We’ll let you know as soon as we get a new date to expect “something big.”

Update: A Samsung spokesperson issued a follow up statement to CNET, confirming speculation that the reveal was postponed out of respect, following the passing of Steve Jobs. “We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing,” the spokesperson explained.

Ready for the latest scoop of Android Ice Cream Sandwich future? A report over on BGR details specs for the next pure Google phone we’ve come to know and love as the Nexus Prime. Quoting a “trusted source,” the insider dish paints a familiar contoured picture of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy family member. The screen has been purportedly bumped to a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED display, and lurking just beneath its chassis should be a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor. As for the rest, the supposed Verizon exclusive packs 1GB RAM, 32GB of storage, a 1,750mAh battery, 1.3 megapixel front-facing / 5 megapixel rear shooter capable of 1080p HD video, WiFi a/b/g/n, NFC and possible LTE / HSPA bands. So does this handset measure up to your (by now) impossibly high standards? We’ll soon find out if any of this pre-release gossip holds its water when we’re live at Unpacked next week.

Update: A new batch of rumored specs have surfaced over on GSM Arena, and these seem to be more in line with what we’d expect of a new Nexus. According to an anonymous Google employee, that 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display mentioned above is just about the only spec to make the final cut. The processor, however, is more likely to be a dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos (that’s right) with an accompanying dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics chip. That rear facing camera? Try 8 megapixels with a newly beefed up sensor. The handset should also ship with a girthy 2,050mAh battery fully capable of juicing this apparent LTE / CDMA / GSM Android monster.
