Saskatchewan’s population has jumped by a record-setting amount, according to the latest three-month statistics.

Microsoft has been benefiting from Android for some time. They rake in the patent dough from all the manufacturers who produce an Android device. In the past HTC, Velocity Micro, General Dynamics, Acer and Viewsonic and now Samsung. In a press release this morning Microsoft stated that “signed a definitive agreement with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., to cross-license the patent portfolios of both companies, providing broad coverage for each company’s products. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will receive royalties for Samsung’s mobile phones and tablets running the Android mobile platform. In addition, the companies agreed to cooperate in the development and marketing of Windows Phone.”

It’s rumoured that HTC pays Microsoft $15 per Android device, but the talk is that since this Samsung will produce Windows Phone handsets that the price for them will fall to $10 per device. “Microsoft and Samsung see the opportunity for dramatic growth in Windows Phone and we’re investing to make that a reality… Microsoft believes in a model where all our partners can grow and profit based on our platform.”

Perhaps Microsoft will go after RIM next.

Imagine you have a Windows PC with a single user account, and you just lost your password. Here’s how to enable the hidden Administrator account with nothing more than the install CD and some registry hacking magic so you can reset your password.

Normally if you wanted to enable the hidden administrator account from within Windows, you’d need access to an Administrator mode command prompt, but that won’t work if you don’t have access, right? This is a great way to quickly enable the hidden admin account so you can reset the password on your main account.

Note: This will require editing the registry which is risky. Proceed only if you know what you are doing and at your own risk.

Certainly not the biggest news but SaskTel has now made their 4G devices available on PrePaid. If you’re not into contracts and opt to purchase the device outright you can now do so, but you’ll have to fork out a bit for their prepaid plans. In addition, SaskTel prepaid is currently only available in Saskatchewan, roaming for some reason has not been set up yet, but “SaskTel anticipates that roaming outside Saskatchewan will be available in 2012 once roaming agreements are in place”. Prepaid data plans start at $15 for 150 MB and goes up to 3GB for $50. Talk and Text plans begin at $18/month and they also have a Prepaid BlackBerry Talk, Text & Data Plan for $40/month. Good to have options.

It’s the plane so nice, they unveiled it twice. Boeing once again presented its long-awaited and much-delayed 787 Dreamliner to client All Nippon Airways, but this time the goods were officially delivered. After taking the wraps off the airliner early this August, the aerospace company managed to get a flight-ready unit over to its Everett, Washington production plant for a celebratory hand-off. Despite a fit of stops and starts for the line’s rollout, Boeing expects to meet ANA’s order of its future 55-strong fleet, producing an additional 20 craft for the Japanese airline by 2013’s end. If you want to be among the select few to call “First!,” you might want to consider booking that Japan-bound vacation now.

Hot on the heels of a UK release, Samsung has just announced that its long-awaited (and long-delayed) Galaxy Player 4.0 ($229) and 5.0 ($269) will be available for pre-order starting September 27th, with US availability pegged for October 16th. Oddly enough, Samsung gave no reason behind the once-spring, now-autumn pushback, but at least we can finally stop wondering and instead start enjoying the spoils of an (almost) Galaxy Note-sans-phone. (Not like we haven’t heard a similar tune before). All that aside, the Player 5.0 and 4.0 weigh in at 6.4 and 4.2 ounces, respectively, and both are powered by Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread); other specs include 802.11b/g/n, WVGA Super Clear LCDs (800 x 480), Bluetooth 3.0, 8GB of onboard storage, a microSD expansion slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, voice recorder, mini-USB connectivity, front and rear cameras and support for Sammy’s Media Hub content service. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is available for pre-sale right now, with shipments to hit retail on October 2nd. You’ll be laying down $469 for the 16GB model, while a doubling of capacity will run you $100 more. Need a refresher on this one, too? Over the weekend, Dave Winer wrote an article at Scripting.com explaining how Facebook keeps track of where you are on the web after logging in without your consent. Nik Cubrilovic dug a little deeper, and discovered that Facebook can still track where you are, even if you log out. Facebook, for its part, has denied the claims. Previously, we only knew that the port of Crysis would be heading the PSN and Xbox Live in October. Now we know that it’s coming on October 4, which is next week. And so if you’re a console owner who never played this on and don’t feel like shelling out full price on Rage or NBA 2k12 or Dark Souls, Crysis will provide a quality alternative for you at $20. I mean, it’s a full game and s–t, so you will get your money’s worth. And it’s all new to you anyway.

What’s old is new again. Or, is it that content is still king? We could never keep those Web 2.0 arguments straight, but from the sound of this latest YouTube rumor, ol’ Mountain View might be moonwalking into an old media model. According to the Wall Street Journal, Google’s been hustling to get contracts for a lineup of regularly scheduled channels ironed out “within the next 60 days.” That sort of timeline would indicate a likely early 2012 bow for a refresh of the online video hub made famous by piano-playing cats, and a certain viral surprise in an SNL-made box. While on-demand digital video sites are nothing new in the crowded, streaming marketplace, a move like this could firmly position the search giant as the king of place-shifted, live viewing, and cause more potential headaches for its broadcast and cable competitors. With an in-house production studio already under its wing, courtesy of that Next New Networks acquisition, Google’s entrance into the big, bad world of entertainment could be on its interwebbed way.

Over the past three months, twice as many consumers purchased Android over iOS. The numbers returned as 56% for Android, 28% for iOS, and 9% for RIM. The remaining 6% was simply comprised as other. The market share currently sits at 43% Android, 28% iOS, and 18% RIM. With the pending release of both the iPhone 5 and the Nexus Prime, it will be interesting to see how the numbers are affected.
