Verizon was the first carrier to come to Samsung’s defense in the company’s patent dispute with Apple, but it’s not the last. As Reuters reports today, T-Mobile has now also sided with Samsung in the lawsuit, stating in a court filing that a sales ban on certain Samsung products would “unnecessarily harm” the carrier and its customers, and that, “at this late date, T-Mobile could not find comparable replacement products for the 2011 holiday season.” The carrier also noted that its ads also “prominently feature” some of the Samsung products in question, and that those investments “cannot be recouped easily.” As for the case itself, the next big date is an October 13th hearing on the injunction request.

Oh, sorry, we’re talking about Android devices here. Specifically ones that support video calling over Skype. With the update to version 2.5, the VoIP service has tacked on another 14 Goog-powered gadgets to its list of officially supported handsets and tablets. Yes, that’s right, we said tablets. In addition to bringing support to phones like the Atrix, Bionic and Nexus One, Skype is inviting the Xoom, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Acer’s Iconia to the party. We’ve even received reports that video calls are working on other Honeycomb slates like the ASUS Transformer. You’ll find the full list of officially supported devices in the PR after the break.

Yesterday Samsung and Microsoft signed an agreement – joining others like HTC, Acer and Viewsonic – who pay ongoing royalties to the company for using their patent in Android phones and tablets. It was rumoured that Microsoft collects between $10 – $15 for every Android device sold, but today Goldman Sachs’s is suggesting that Microsoft actually rakes in $3-$6 for each Android device, bringing in a cool $444 million a year (July 1, 2011, ends June 30, 2012). All that early work for securing the patent seemed to pay off, but the money will be redirected to pay for building up their own Windows Phone OS, which CEO Steve Ballmer recently stated “We haven’t sold quite as many as I would have liked in the first year.. I’m not saying I love where we are, but I am very optimistic on where we can be”

It took them awhile, but Flickr finally has an Android app. It provides plenty of browsing, uploading, and sharing features, much like its iPhone counterpart. Additionally, Flickr has added a neat feature called Photo Sessions, allowing you and your friends to view a slideshow of photos at the same time. It includes text chat, so everyone can communicate, plus you can shift control of the slideshow to any participant. Today Asus rolled out the Android Honeycomb 3.2.1 update for their Transformer tablet. Updates are always fun and are generally an improvement to your Android experience. If you are the proud owner of a Transformer and haven’t received the update yet, press menu>settings>about> and check for a system update. According to Asus’s Facebook page, the update will bring:

Android Honeycomb 3.2.1 update available now for the Asus Transformer

Saskatchewan’s population has jumped by a record-setting amount, according to the latest three-month statistics.

Microsoft has been benefiting from Android for some time. They rake in the patent dough from all the manufacturers who produce an Android device. In the past HTC, Velocity Micro, General Dynamics, Acer and Viewsonic and now Samsung. In a press release this morning Microsoft stated that “signed a definitive agreement with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., to cross-license the patent portfolios of both companies, providing broad coverage for each company’s products. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will receive royalties for Samsung’s mobile phones and tablets running the Android mobile platform. In addition, the companies agreed to cooperate in the development and marketing of Windows Phone.”

It’s rumoured that HTC pays Microsoft $15 per Android device, but the talk is that since this Samsung will produce Windows Phone handsets that the price for them will fall to $10 per device. “Microsoft and Samsung see the opportunity for dramatic growth in Windows Phone and we’re investing to make that a reality… Microsoft believes in a model where all our partners can grow and profit based on our platform.”

Perhaps Microsoft will go after RIM next.
